A public record of the Anacostia River
This dashboard gathers water-quality measurements for the Anacostia River from federal and District sources, puts them on one map and one timeline, and keeps them open to anyone. It is built for teaching and research at University of the District of Columbia, and for residents who want to know what is in their river.

The network
Every station the platform reads from, on the live map. Pan it, or open the dashboard for the layers and the timeline.
Where the readings come from
Nothing here is measured by this platform. Every value is pulled from a public upstream source and attributed to it.

Who built it
Three parties, with different roles.
Water Resources Research Institute
Proposed and academically guided by Dr. Tolessa Deksissa, Director of Water Resources Research Institute and Environmental Testing Lab.
District of Columbia Government
Funder, as part of its commitment to environmental data accessibility and water-resource resilience.
DAPS Analytics
Design, engineering and implementation of the platform, working with the WRRI team.
What this cannot be used for
- Not a basis for legal, regulatory or emergency decisions. The platform is for education, research and public information. Consult DOEE or the relevant federal agency for anything consequential.
- Sensor data carries field error. Gaps, calibration offsets and transmission faults are inherent to instruments left in a river, and they reach this dashboard as they are.
- A missing reading is never shown as a passing one. Where a measurement is absent, the station is drawn as untested rather than safe.
WRRI provides the scientific guidance and project direction; the software and architecture are the work of DAPS Analytics.
Take the data, or ask a question
Everything on this dashboard is exportable. Nothing is behind a login.
The data itself
Measurements export as CSV or JSON, with the source and timestamp attached to every row.
